... i have a post cooking up in my head, but i have no idea how to start it off. it's a substantial idea, but i haven't ironed out how i want to talk about it, and this lack of scope, per say, is BUGGIN' the CRAP out of me...
i have a title.
i know what i want to say in the body.
but i do NOT have a clue on how i want present the whole thing... BLAST!
this whole "writers block" thing is a bit boring...

i TOLD you...
... that i was wildly inconsistent at blogging...!
i actually had to go back and look at my blog to see what my last post was. it's been THAT long.
here's a quick update of the things you've missed in the last 3 months:
-i got a chance to fly to florida over thanksgiving break and meet all of the family from my wife's side and had a BLAST. within the first 10 minutes of meeting some of them, i got some slanty eyed remarks thrown at me, and this motif persisted for the rest of the trip. big up to the florida kiefers for letting us stay there for those 3(?) glorious nights. shouts to the hartmans who essentially mopped the floor with me in mario kart wii, and let us stay the night... oh how i wish we could've spent more time there. great thanks to the stambaughs who lets us begin and end our trip with them on very short notice! and lastly to the drivers who let us run amok with their children all day! and a super special shout to my grand-niece and nephew, allison and graham, who are likely to not have an inkling of who i am the next time i see them...
-sierra and i have celebrated our first year as husband and wife! love you baby! here's to many many more! i've probably just irritated her by making such a cheesy announcement, but it's true, i'm thrilled to be married!
-i've been working with the youth band at my church. Contrary to some peoples' belief, i actually think that there is mounds of potential within the group that i get to work with, all they need is a bit of direction, but i digress. anyhoot, i've been observing them for the last few weeks, spending as much time as i could with them before i had to leave them again to go on night shift. before i did leave, i got a chance to share my heart with them, and how seriously i took both youth ministry AND worship. i didn't want to just leave them and let everything we'd worked on go unravel, so i decided to leave them with all with individual challenges. i typed up some things i'd observed and gave them all a positive observation, a critique, and a challenge to grow on, and i really hope that they take this seriously. maybe you all can join me in praying for them...? thanks in advance.
-and you did read that correctly, i did say i was going on night-shift. the nature of my job requires me to work ridiculous hours at certain points during the year. at any given time, i can go from working 5 8's to 7 13's and more.... the most hours i've ever worked on during a given pay period was somewhere in the realm of 200 hours.... but again i digress, because this is supposed to be catching you up on things that've happened in the last 3-4 months. what HAS been happening is that we've been getting ready for a MASSIVE maintenance period at work, which has been requiring many hours of work from me and the rest of the people i work with. i'm looking at the end of april until any of this lets up. crazy, i know. 'tis the nature of the beast...
Oh! but i've decided to take up twitter-ing while i am on night shift so as to shed some light on what a day in the Turnaround is like(these are the large maintenance phases that require the many hours)... you can check them out when i get started at twitter.com/drickiam
-i like to do some creatve writing in my spare time and i recently sent some short stories into a local literary magazine in alameda county. i was a "featured local author," in the december issue for a story i wrote about an inner city teen who finds God through the mysterious graffiti etched on the wall of one of the abandoned apartments of his building. this bullet point so obviously not true in the least bit, but i'm sure at least one reader out there took the bait and thought that they were learning something new and redeeming about me. sorry to disappoint.
-there are more things to share, but my beautiful wife is urging that it's bed time... and before you go and raise an eyebrow at that comment, i need to clarify that she will not be joining me at this juncture. she merely wants me to get off of the computer and go to bed so that i won't be cranky tomorrow evening and she can study without my stupid randomly placed comments. she mostly insists that i'll be grouchy if i don't get enough sleep. she's probably right, and she will undoubtedly not like this comment.
sleep tightly.
